What 0x80004005 actually means
0x80004005 is the COM error E_FAIL, which just means “the operation failed”. Many Windows components return it when they hit a problem they don’t have a specific code for, which is why it appears in such different places.
Start with what you were doing when it appeared, then use the matching section below.

Command
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren %systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start cryptsvc
net start bits
net start wuauserv
Run each line in an elevated Command Prompt (Run as administrator). Renaming these folders only clears the update download cache; Windows rebuilds them. If a rename says 'access denied', restart and run the lines again.
Prevent it from coming back
Keep Windows and apps updated, and avoid interrupting updates or file transfers.
