Try the share by IP (\\192.168.1.20\share). Turn on Network discovery and File and printer sharing for Private networks on both PCs, add credentials for the remote PC in Credential Manager, and make sure the remote PC is awake and its firewall allows File and Printer Sharing. Newer Windows blocks insecure guest/SMB1 access, so use an account with a password.

What 0x80070035 actually means

Windows 11 0x80070035 means the share couldn't be reached at all: name resolution failed, port 445 is blocked, or the device is off. Windows 11 24H2 also tightened SMB security (guest access and unsigned connections are blocked by default), and some older NAS devices and passwordless shares stopped working after that update. Using a proper user account (and updating NAS firmware to support SMB2/3 with signing) is the safe fix.

Symptoms

  • “Windows cannot access \\PC. Error code: 0x80070035. The network path was not found.”

Common causes

  • Network set to Public or discovery off.
  • Insecure guest/SMB1 access blocked.
  • Missing credentials.
  • Name resolution or firewall problems.

Try these fixes

  1. Use the IP addressIf \\IP\share works, the problem is name resolution.
  2. Set network to Private and enable sharingSettings → Network & internet → network properties → Private; Advanced sharing settings → discovery and file sharing On.
  3. Store credentialsControl Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials → Add the remote PC/NAS name with its username and password.
  4. Check the remote PC/NASIt must be on, shared folder permissions set, and firewall allowing File and Printer Sharing. Update NAS firmware for SMB2/3.
  5. Avoid re-enabling SMB1SMB1 is insecure; upgrade the device instead.
How to tell it worked: The shared folder opens in File Explorer.

Avoiding it in future

Use password-protected shares and keep NAS firmware current.
